Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program The Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program is a successful partnership of environmental agencies, utilities and nonprofit organizations that assist, recognize and promote businesses and government agencies that volunteer to operate in a more environmentally responsible way. In order for the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program to certify a business as "green," participants must be in compliance with all environmental regulations and meet program standards for conserving resources, preventing pollution and minimizing waste. They offer motivated businesses and agencies an easy-to-use framework for improving environmental performance. Green Businesses receive free on-site technical assistance during the certification process and also benefit from free advertising and promotion, local recognition, increased customer retention, and savings as a result of resource conservation! Modeled after the Bay Area Green Business Program, many California cities and counties have also adopted Green Business Programs. Waterless Pedicures Jaime Schrabeck, owner of Precision Nails in Carmel created a unique way to save water. In 2005, she developed a waterless spa pedicure that eliminates spa pedicure chairs and the water used to fill them. Her luxurious treatment uses three moistened washcloths saving a minimum of 10 to 15 gallons per customer. Waterless spa pedicure also eliminate the risk of infection associated with spa pedicure chairs.
